Story
Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L'Ormarins in Franschhoek. The winery was originally granted to the French Huguenot, Jean Roi in 1694 making it one of the oldest estates in South Africa. Later, the estate was bought by global business tycoon, Anton Rupert. His legacy was passed down to his son, Anthonij Rupert who cultivated the MCC that we know today. Due to an unfortunate car accident, Anthonij Rupert passed away in 2001 and the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate in the name of his brother. The current winemaker is Zanie Viljoen.
Tasting Notes
Pair the MCC Brut Classique Rosé with “O luce di quest’anima” from Donizetti’s Linda di Chamounix. This bright, uplifting aria reflects the lively and invigorating qualities of the wine, which dazzles with its complex aromas of raspberries, strawberries, and zesty lemon. Just as the aria sparkles with joy and elegance, the crisp acidity and fine perlage of the Méthode Cap Classique, combined with its fruity and yeasty notes, make for a perfect harmony with this delightful composition.
Food Pairing
Pair this beautiful blush pink Brut Rosé with a cherry, cranberry and rose nougat, which amplifies similar flavours in the Rosé.
Wine Makers Note
This wine is crafted using the traditional Champagne method. Whole-bunch grapes are pressed, with the free run and second press components kept separate. After fermentation and racking, the base wine is sweetened and prepared for a second fermentation in the bottle. The wine matures on the lees for 2-4 years before disgorgement, when a dosage of base wine and sugar is added. Finally, the bottles rest for an additional 3 months before release.
