David & Nadia, Chenin Blanc, 2021
Story
David & Nadia is a first generation family owned Swartland project and are members of the Swartland Independent Producers. With family roots in the Swartland dating back to 1757, they focus on dry land farmed bush vines, soil diversity, climate and people of one region only. They follow biological farming, with increasing organic practices each year. In the cellar, they work naturally to express site and soil with minimal intervention.
Tasting Notes
An aria to pair with David & Nadia Chenin Blanc is "S’altro che lagrime" from Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito. This lyrical piece mirrors the wine’s refined character—gracefully expressive. As the aria unfolds with tender phrasing and delicate emotional shading, it evokes the wine’s layers of pear, quince, and white peach, gradually revealing subtle notes of citrus blossom and chamomile. The calm melody parallels the wine’s balance of bright acidity and soft texture, while the lingering finish finds its echo in the aria’s gentle resolution. Both invite a contemplative experience — deeply rewarding.
Food Pairing
The wine’s light acidity complements vegetable risottos, shellfish, and dishes featuring quince or stone fruits. For a simple match, try it with fresh baguette, olive oil, and salty almonds to highlight its texture and minerality.
Wine Maker’s Note
The 2023 Chenin Blanc is sourced from eight Certified Heritage Vineyards (1968–1986), rooted in diverse soils—granitic, shale, clay-limestone, and sandy iron-rich sites. Over 25 pickings contribute to a fresh, focused, and balanced wine from our warm Mediterranean region.
Whole-bunch pressed, naturally fermented, and matured 11 months in old French oak (80%) and concrete (20%), with 9 months’ bottle aging. Certified by the Old Vine Project (OVP).
