Story
Springfield Estate’s Miss Lucy is a unique white blend from the Robertson Valley, inspired by the Red Stumpnose, a critically endangered fish known to Southern Cape fishermen as “Miss Lucy.” Created as an ode to the bounty of the sea, this wine celebrates fresh, vibrant flavours and the simple pleasures of food, sunshine and a salty breeze.
Tasting Notes
Bright and refreshing, Miss Lucy bursts with vibrant citrus and grapefruit flavours, balanced by a generous, rounded mouthfeel. Despite its richness, it remains remarkably moderate in alcohol, making it an easy-drinking yet distinctive white blend.
Its ideal musical pairing is Senta’s Ballad from Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman — bright, spirited and touched with the mystery of the sea, perfectly complementing Miss Lucy’s fresh citrus character.
Food Pairing
Perfect with grilled fish, salads, light pasta dishes and fresh summer fare. It is particularly well suited to food enjoyed outdoors on a warm, sunny day.
Winemaker’s Note
Miss Lucy is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Semillon and Sauvignon Gris. The grapes are harvested at night, with dry ice used to protect their freshness. The juice is fermented and then left on its primary lees for 100 days, contributing to its generous mouthfeel while preserving its vibrant freshness.
