Story

A rising force in the New World - Alinea Wines was recently established in 2021 by Natasha Jacka. Sourcing grapes from select sites across the Western Cape, Natasha produces high-quality, small-batch wines that reflect their unique origin; embracing minimal intervention winemaking, allowing each bottle to express its terroir with purity and authenticity.

Tasting Notes

A great match for this Sauvignon Blanc is "Les Berceaux" (meaning The Ship) by Fauré. This art song, though not from an opera, has an unusual, atmospheric quality that mirrors the wine’s rich texture and layered complexity. The grapefruit, guava, and granadilla notes reflect the shimmering, fluid melodies, while the salinity and savouriness in the wine resonate with the song’s oceanic imagery. The long, lingering finish pairs beautifully with the song’s wistful, expansive feel, making for an evocative and refined pairing.

Food Pairing

Pair Alinea Sauvignon Blanc with seared scallops with a citrus butter sauce. The wine’s rich texture and salinity complement the scallops’ sweetness, while the grapefruit and guava notes enhance the citrusy brightness of the dish.

Wine Maker’s Note

These vines stand deeply rooted in sea sand and limestone soils in St Helena Bay on the West Coast. The grapes were harvested in mid February. Whole bunches were gently pressed. The juice was settled in tank overnight before being racked to barrel. Vinification and ageing took place in ancient 600L French oak casks. The wine was aged in barrel on the lees for 6 months before bottling. The fruit was handled with respect to reflect its origin in St Helena Bay, West Coast.
