Story
Historically known for its dairy farms, the Darling region has only recently emerged as a rising star in South African wine. Over the past 15 years, vineyards have taken root, and today, Darling is making bold strides in establishing itself on the wine map.
Tasting Notes
Turkish delight, cherries, vanilla, and butterscotch — a palette of aromas and flavors as expressive as a Puccini melody. The ideal pairing is “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” from La Rondine, an aria that drifts between sweetness and strength with effortless grace. Like the wine, it is rich yet balanced, unfolding gently with every note and leaving a lasting impression of refinement and joy.
Food Pairing
Enjoy this wine on its own or pair with a variety of meat or pasta dishes, and berry or chocolate desserts.
Winemaker’s Note
Chocoholic comes from dryland bush vines rooted in the granite-rich soils of the Darling Hills, cooled by Atlantic breezes. After careful harvest at 24–25° Balling, the wine is fermented on skins and partially matured on oak staves. A unique twist sees 10% of the grapes raisined on the vine for added richness. The result: a smooth, subtly sweet, and irresistibly layered Pinotage with indulgent charm.
