Story

The name Kanonkop is derived from a hillock (kop) on the Simonsberg mountain above the wine estate. During the 17th and 18th centuries, a cannon (kanon) was fired to announce the arrival of sailing ships entering Table Bay. The roar of the cannon would be the signal to local farmers, who were waiting to make the 50-kilometer journey to the harbour, to load up their wagons with fresh fruit and vegetables to barter their produce.

Tasting Notes

Pair this pale, full-bodied dry rosé—bursting with aromas of strawberries, raspberries, cherries, and rosewater—with Spring Time by Peter Warlock. The song’s fresh, lyrical joy mirrors the wine’s bright acidity and vibrant fruit. Just as Warlock’s setting awakens with the sounds and scents of the season, this rosé unfurls layers of red apples, melon, nectarine, and candied cherry on the palate. Its delicate pink hue and refreshing finish evoke the lightness and renewal of springtime itself.

Food Pairing

Enjoy it with a goat’s cheese and beetroot salad topped with toasted walnuts and a citrus vinaigrette. A fresh, balanced, and memorable pairing.

Winemaker’s Note

The grapes were crushed and immediately pressed to prevent too much colour extraction. The juice was cold fermented at 13˚C until dry. Kept on the lees for 3 months prior to bottling.
